The Bohemian Bride

Lisa Huber on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 12:00:00 am

Floating down the aisle, flowers trailing from her hair, windchimes ringing in the breeze.  Bohemian brides capture the essence of an unconventional wedding, true to themselves and their vision.  Every choice reflects this bride’s free-spirited, relaxed approach to life.  Filled with the beauty of nature and unafraid of color, pattern, and texture, bohemian weddings are a sensory celebration, simultaneously exotic and relaxed.

This is the bride who opts for nontraditional choices, in everything from clothing to venue to music to ambience.  Bohemian brides thrive on not doing the expected, but on doing exactly what’s right for them.  Whether it is an outdoor wedding with a few friends gathered in a mountain meadow, or several guests in an old movie theater, or a late-night ceremony in a favorite jazz club, the spirit of bohemia is there in the free and easy atmosphere and the laid-back joy of the celebration.

Bohemian brides tend to choose wedding dresses that are comfortable and flowing, feminine but not fussy.  Often created with light, floaty materials and delicate ornamentation, they go equally well with beaded slippers or bare feet.  And you might find either footwear on this bride.  Natural materials and handcrafted details complete the bride’s ensemble, with loose bouquets and artisan jewelry enhancing her individual style.

When the acoustic guitar begins as the bride and groom meet at the altar, it’s a good bet the bride has a little bohemian spirit in her soul.  Other musical choices are as individual as each bride and groom, and often one or both are musicians who write the music themselves.

The reception continues the relaxed, unique touches, with bright colors, unusual textures and exotic foods.  Imagine jewel toned table linens, silks mixed with burlap, pillows around low tables piled with fruits and tropical flowers.  Couches might line the walls, with conversation areas taking the place of the typical round tables with 8-10 place settings.    People mingle and relax, with a less formal approach to entertaining. Departing guests go home with hand-made scented soaps as favors, or homemade preserves, or a commemorative plant for the garden.

Whatever the choices she makes, the bohemian bride doesn’t worry about following convention, she follows her heart.  And that is why we are here, to help every bride find the choices that warm her heart.  We connect vendors and couples so that they can have the wedding that makes them the happiest, with the perfect professionals to make it happen.  Come see us at Our Wedding Library, where we can help you enjoy your perfect wedding.

April Bridal Social Recap

Lisa on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 12:00:00 am

Feathers were flying, cameras were flashing, and friends were connecting at Our Wedding Library Thursday night.  Who knew that a photo booth and a few fun props would bring out the ladies’ playful sides?  Olde Towne Events set up their travelling photo booth for our lucky brides and grooms to get their free save-the-date photos, and the good times rolled on from there.  Premier Catering tantalized us with their phenomenal Louisiana specialties, the tempting smells of gumbo and barbecue wafting through the air, and Candi’z Ice With an Attitude amazed us all with their gorgeous ice sculpture.

What a great setting to relax, enjoy and meet some of our beautiful brides and talented wedding professionals.  We love seeing all of our friends mix and mingle and find each other.  Vendors network with other professionals to trade techniques; bridal couples meet up with other brides and grooms to share ideas; and especially, our brides and grooms connect with our amazingly talented and creative wedding pros.  What a great way for brides to meet some of the best talent in Shreveport and Bossier in a comfortable environment, getting to know each other in a more personal way as the couples are choosing the best people to help them celebrate the most personal day of their lives … their very own wedding day.

Every wedding day should be that perfect expression of each unique couple’s love, and with the fabulous talents gathered at Our Wedding Library last night, every wedding can be.  Each of our vendors offers that unique touch to make your wedding special, from the delicate artistry of hand-lettered invitations and envelopes from Paperglaze Calligraphy, to the elegant gowns offered at Happily Ever After, to the wealth of photographic talents, each one with their own vision and personality.  It is so fun to see their portfolios, all gorgeous and all unique.  And  we have even more fun seeing the great people behind the camera, with visits last night from Next Generation Picture Studio, Glenn Scruggs Photography, and Christi Martin Photography

We will be smiling all day as random bits of feather boas drift by, reminding us of good times with great people.  We hope to see you all again for our May event.  It will be fantastic, a sneak peek at something very exciting, especially for our brides-to-be.  We are all so thrilled, I don’t know how we’ll keep the secret until then; we might just have to give you some hints. You will want to see this wedding secret revealed!

Until Next Time,

The Modern Bride

Lisa Huber on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 12:00:00 am

Chic, contemporary, cutting-edge.  Modern brides are current in every way.  These ladies tend to be up on every latest trend and know exactly which ones are right for them.  When planning a wedding with a modern vibe, trend-setting brides like these lead the way.

A modern wedding uses the latest in technology and design to create a day that can include elements of tradition, but with an up-to the minute twist.   Musical choices are usually fresh and different, even if drawn from the classical repertoire.  Instead of the expected Wagner, perhaps a John Rutter or even a Karlheinz Stockhausen composition might guide the way down the aisle.  And a modern bride is more likely either to walk alone down the aisle, or to be accompanied by both parents, or a trusted mentor.

And what will this modern bride be wearing on that walk down the aisle?  Look for clean lines and innovative designs that capture the style of the latest runway fashions. This is where one might see the bridal gowns in basic black that Vera Wang showcased in her last collection, or dresses in rainbow hues straight from Paris or New York.  If white is the bride’s color of choice, expect a more sophisticated design, with a sleek silhouette.

Mirroring the bride’s sleek sophistication, the floral choices will reflect modern design, with new materials adding interest to the bouquets and arrangements.  Large single flowers may be showcased, or utilizing greenery alone can make a strong, environmentally conscious statement. Incorporating metallic accents and reflective glass lends an urban undercurrent to this stylish décor.

Fresh style will be reflected throughout the celebration, in the entertainment choices and activities.  These chic brides and grooms will be seeking out the latest creative ideas, from photo booths to after parties, unexpected venues and innovative refreshment stations.  From the guest’s first look at the unique invitations to the perfect original favors that end the night, every choice excites with its contemporary energy.

Yet amidst the all of the new, modern aesthetic, a modern bride is still a bride, and her wedding is a love story.  That tradition of love and unity underlies every choice, so a modern bride can feel free to design a wedding with contemporary touches where she prefers them, and still follow tradition where that fits her best.  After all, setting a trend and creating a cutting edge style is really about choosing who you are and what works for you, and being unafraid to follow your heart.  Fearlessly following your heart... in your style, your life, your love...will always lead to a perfect modern wedding.

 Until Next Time,
